Lisa Lindstrom Delaney is responsible for all legal matters generated by WETA’s operations as a local broadcaster and producer of national programming, including the transition from analog to digital television broadcast, issues posed by new technologies for program delivery, and acquisition of the assets of NewsHour Productions LLC, including PBS NewsHour. As executive vice president and general counsel, Delaney also oversees local programming and production; communications; learning media; and human resources, including labor relations. Delaney joined WETA in 1993 as associate general counsel and has served as general counsel since 2001. She reports to President and Chief Executive Officer Sharon Percy Rockefeller.
Prior to joining WETA, Delaney was an associate at King & Spalding, where she was one of the authors of an amicus curiae brief filed in the Supreme Court of the United States on behalf of associations representing reporters, news directors and newspaper publishers in Masson v. The New Yorker. She also worked as a litigator on complex commercial and antitrust matters at Howrey & Simon and served as a law clerk to Judge Geoffrey Alprin of the District of Columbia Superior Court.
Delaney holds a JD, magna cum laude, from Boston College, and a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Smith College. She is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and Virginia.
