Title: Marketing Associate

Status: Full Time-Exempt

Reports to: Director of Communications

JOB OBJECTIVE

The Marketing Associate is responsible for managing NewsHour’s marketing assets including

brand and talent sizzles and brand and special programming promos as well as managing their

organization and distribution for promotional and fundraising purposes. This person will work

with senior producers and executives and self-produce video, photo, and digital assets to further

the reach and capacity of the PBS NewsHour, PBS News Weekend and Washington Week with

The Atlantic. The individual contributor exercises independent judgment and collaborates with

the head of communications, general manager, and executive producer, as well as the

foundation, corporate, and individual fundraising teams and other senior and junior staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Research and fulfill video requests for NewsHour Production’s promotional and fundraising

teams.

· Organize and manage promotional assets on Dropbox and Media Central.

· Assist in researching and arranging promotional video and photo shoots.

· Edit and duplicate video for clients, guests, and others, as necessary, using editing programs,

such as Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro. Provide production assistance.

· Acquire footage and create footage logs.

· Manage the organization and execution of the NewsHour's weekly broadcast funding credits

through coordination across multiple departments, including fundraising teams, broadcast

editors, and the control room.

· Ensure funders on the website are up-to-date by working with the fundraising departments,

digital team, corporate PBS.

· Create fundraising decks and presentations for various events including sponsorship pitches

and executive meetings.

· Creatively prepare fundraising decks and presentations.

· Research and identify marketing trends and opportunities.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

Ability to work independently in a fast-paced newsroom setting and to adjust smoothly to

changing assignments under deadline pressure.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills, spelling and grammar, and demonstrated

writing skills with careful attention to detail.

· Excellent organizational, project planning and follow-through, presentation and time

management skills. Flexible and able to handle multiple tasks.

· Ability to work closely with colleagues in a collaborative manner during high stress

situations.

· Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to interact with a wide variety of people using

diplomacy, tact and discretion.

· Demonstrated understanding and application of computer technology to efficiently

accomplish work, using Microsoft Office, Adobe and Apple programs; email and the

Internet.

· Demonstrated interest in daily news, journalism, non-profit media as well as an understanding of PBS NewsHour’s funding model.

· Availability to work a non-standard or extended work schedule at times with little or no notice

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

College degree.

· Introductory experience with broadcast and online journalism, including writing and editing.

· Experience with Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Illustrator and Photoshop and Avid Media

Composer desirable.

· Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LOCATION

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
